WRITING “ON DEMAND”:
As teachers we invest a great deal of time and expertise on carefully deconstructing genres so that students can recognize and
compose correct generic form. This is necessary, but needs to be balanced with opportunities to allow students to write “on demand”. Daily writing offers students the chance to hone their skills, extend their imaginations and rehearse generic structure.
LINKING TO LITERACY provides resources for teachers to use with students:
- The three genres covered are LITERARY DESCRIPTION, NARRATIVE and PERSUASIVE WRITING.
- The activities have writing prompts and “start-up” ideas.
- Each activity has a generic structure and writing tips scaffold.
