THE AUTHOR:
Hi! I’m Geraldine Norris and I began teaching in the UK in the late 60s and have taught in both the public and private sector in England, Africa and Australia. I’ve been teaching in Queensland since 1984 and since my retirement as deputy principal I have been working on literacy programs with many state schools.
It was while undertaking demonstration reading and writing lessons for teachers that I first began to construct my own resources to specifically focus on thinking and comprehension skills. It very soon became obvious that the use of the resources established a framework of thinking that teachers and students could then apply to other texts in shared reading, guided reading and independent reading.
I hope that the resources in LINKING TO LITERACY can make the vital and difficult job of teaching literacy skills easier for you and your students.
